LANCASTER, Pa. – When NBC “Today Show” anchor Ann Curry wanted to do some unique flying as part of the show’s February “moonlighting” series, it’s no surprise she flew in an Extra 300L to get the experience of a lifetime.
Curry took her first aerobatic flying lesson with Mike Goulian, one of the world’s top aerobatic performers, in the seat right behind her. With Goulian as her instructor, and in an aircraft such as the EA-300L, the novice was able to quickly learn basic aerobatic maneuvers.
“We are very proud of the 300L,” said Ken Weaver, president of Extra Aircraft. “Its handling and performance characteristics make it possible for any pilot to perform the most complex aerobatic maneuvers, setting it apart from others in its class. For this reason, the 300L is one of the most impressive aerobatic aircraft in production today.”
The EA-300L is one of three highly specialized aerobatic planes manufactured by Extra. Company officials say the aircraft’s unique design is one of many reasons that Curry was able to roll, loop and dive with only minimal professional supervision.
The EA-300’s superior performance and precision is also why world-class aerobatic pilots such as Goulian, Peter Besneyei, Patty Wagstaff and others fly Extras.
Extra Aircraft is a premier aircraft manufacturing company headquartered in Lancaster, Pa., with a manufacturing plant in Germany. Founded in the 1980s by veteran aerobatic pilot Walter Extra, Extra Aircraft became a U.S.-owned and -operated company in 2003. The Extra product line includes five highly specialized models: the EA-200, EA-300L and EA-300S, aerobatic aircraft, as well as the EA-400 and EA-500, business and touring aircraft.
