EXTRA AIRCRAFT CONTINUES TO DOMINATE IN RED BULL AIR RACES

LANCASTER, Pa. – With the second round of the 2005 Red Bull Air Races just complete in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Extra Aircraft and its pilots continue to rule in the World Championships.

Veteran aerobatic pilots Klaus Schrodt from Germany and Hungarian-born Peter Besenyei took second and third place respectively during the extreme competition on Sunday, June 12.

“Extra Aircraft’s EA-300L is one of the most favored aircraft by high-performance, competitive pilots because it can achieve the most extreme aerobatic maneuvers with very few limitations,” said Ken Weaver, president of Extra Aircraft. “The combination of carbon-fiber’s lightweight strength and its power-house engine make the Extra 300 virtually unbeatable.”

English aerobatic champion Steve Jones secured a respectable fifth place after trading in his Sukhoi 26 last year for an EA-300S. Jones, wanting to improve his position from last year’s races, is currently tied for third in the overall competition.

“The Extra is easier and handles better at low levels in and amongst the gates – so far it’s looking really good,” said Jones. “I wasn’t sure how it was going to compare, but Abu Dhabi confirmed that the Extra is pretty good – it is faster in a straight line. It’s also very good on tight, twisty tracks like we had in Abu Dhabi.”

“Six out of the eight champion pilots flying in the Red Bull Air Races compete in an Extra Aircraft,” said Weaver. “That tells us we are doing something right.”

Rotterdam was the second round in a seven-round air race series, which culminates in San Francisco on October 8.
