EXTRA AIRCRAFT's EA-300S TAKES TOP HONORS IN RED BULL RACE
Performance and Victory by EA-300S Kicks-off 2005 World Series
LANCASTER , Pa. – World champion aerobatic pilot Peter Besenyei took top honors with his custom-made EA-300S in the Red Bull Air Race in Abu Dhabi last month.
Besenyei, who invented the air racing sport two years ago, completed the course with a time of 1:36:67, a remarkable 7.55 seconds faster than the second place winner.
"it was a very tough and technical race," said Besenyei. "I was flying against some of the best pilots in the world, and flying one of the greatest aircrafts in the world. The precision handling of the Extra Aircraft's 300S played a very important role in winning this race, where the slightest move makes a difference."
Specifically built for Besenyei, his new EA-300S features enhanced controllability and a boosted engine built by world renowned engine tuner Monty Barrett, according to ExtraAircraft founder and engineer Walter Extra.
The Red Bull Rade is considered among many the fourth dimension of flight. It combines the disciplines of aerobatic flying, auto racing and ski slalom. Pilots not only have to be the fastest, but perform aerobatic maneuvers in between several pairs of 19-meter-high, white air-filled pylons, each spaced 10 meters to 14 meters apart.
"Extra's aircraft are designed and bulit for superior performance," said Ken Weaver, president of Extra Aircraft. "World-champion pilots choose them because of their controllability and safety, other pilots prefer Extra because you don't have to be a world-champion pilot to fly them."
Extra Aircraft is a premier aircraft manufacturing company headquartered in Lancaster, Pa., with a manufacturing plant in Germany. Founded in the 1980s by veteran aerobatic pilot Walter Extra, Extra Aircraft became a U.S.-owned and -operated company in 2003. The Extra product line includes five highly specialized models: the EA-200, EA-300L and EA-300S, aerobatic aircraft, as well as the EA-400 and EA-500, business and touring aircraft.
